Even better support for the sector
Absenteeism figures from Vernet for 2023
Danijela Budimir, Director of Operations at Vernet, has been with the PGGM subsidiary for 23 years. She and her team are very proud of calculating absenteeism within the health sector for the whole of the Netherlands. They also appreciate the close relationship with customers. Danijela enthusiastically adds, "Over 60% have been with Vernet for over 20 years, which says something!"
Soon, Vernet will join forces with PGGM&CO and PFZW Data Services. In addition to healthcare, they will focus on welfare, with a pilot already underway in maternity care. Danijela says, "We have been a PGGM subsidiary since 2020. Not much changed for employees during that (coronavirus) period.
Since April 1, 2024, we have a collective labor agreement and all colleagues have the same employment conditions. And now, we are really starting to collaborate. The atmosphere is good, concrete goals have been set, and plans have been made. I am confident that together we can better support the health and welfare sector."
Last year, absenteeism among healthcare personnel decreased quarterly compared to the previous year. The absenteeism rate among healthcare workers in 2023 was 7.75% (2022: 8.36%). In contrast to short-term absenteeism, absenteeism longer than 365 days exceeded 2% for the first time. The reporting frequency decreased to 1.30.

Vernet: Insights into Absenteeism
Every employee who is absent affects productivity and increases pressure on others. To reduce workload and shortages in the sector, Vernet offers employers in healthcare insights and guidance based on collected absenteeism data from healthcare institutions. The ambition is to extend this service to the welfare sector.
Attention and customization
Many customers were curious about which organization scored best on absenteeism prevention and management. External factors also play a role in calculating the Vernet Health Ranking, alongside organizational policies. The best-performing organizations in absenteeism prevention were interviewed. Attention to employees proved to be the key. Danijela adds, "This way, you can search for customized solutions to prevent absenteeism. And in case of absenteeism, ensure that someone can return to work sooner."
This year, we aim to further develop the latest component of the HR data portal, the SPP tool. The SPP tool provides insight into the expected development of the workforce and the anticipated personnel needs for an organization over the next five years. We plan to add various scenarios this year, enabling organizations to understand what they need to focus on in the coming years.
Discover the products and services we offer to truly assist HR professionals in health and welfare.
We do not do this alone, but collaborate with other organizations in the sector and the Ministry of Health, Welfare, and Sport (VWS). They have even purchased part of our HR data portal, allowing every employer in the sector to benchmark for free. Additionally, we are establishing a new collaboration with PGGM&CO and Vernet, a subsidiary of PGGM, to strengthen each other's efforts in the health and welfare sector.
All data received by our client, Pension Fund Health and Welfare (PFZW), is returned via the HR data portal, an online environment where organizations can log in for free. Employers can access and benchmark their own data with that of other organizations, gaining insight into the challenges and opportunities for their organization.

PFZW Data Services: Smart with Data
The supply of healthcare professionals - the people working in health and welfare - is increasing, but the demand for care is growing faster. We cannot bridge this gap solely with human resources, as eventually one in four people will be working in healthcare. We need to come up with smart solutions together. Through PFZW Data Services, we provide insight to address this challenge.
