PGGM Employees Take Action During The Passion 2024

At PGGM, we believe in the power of inclusion and connection. That's why last Thursday in Zeist, no less than eleven PGGM colleagues volunteered to make the 2024 edition of The Passion, with its theme of 'connection', even more inclusive this year.

One of the colleagues who participated on behalf of PGGM was Geraldine Leegwater. Geraldine has been with PGGM for three years and is a member of our Executive Committee, responsible for Asset Management. ‘I live in Zeist with my husband Erwin and daughter Evie,’ says Geraldine. ‘We watch The Passion at home every year. This year it was held in Zeist, with special attention to accessibility for the blind and visually impaired, made possible in part by the Bartiméus Fund. Because Evie went to school at Bartiméus for many years and wanted to take part in the procession with a guide, I felt very close to this activity. I wanted to contribute. Bundel made it possible.’

In close collaboration with the Bartiméus Fund, our colleagues worked to make the event more accessible to the visually impaired. The Bartiméus Fund is dedicated to supporting people with visual impairments and has been a partner of The Passion since 2023. Together with the organisation, we have been exploring ways to make this edition of The Passion even more inclusive. Last Thursday, this included providing support for the blind and partially sighted at a specially designated VIP stand along the route and enabling visually impaired people to join the procession with personal assistance.

This year, for the first time, the visually impaired and blind joined the cross bearers under organised supervision. ‘It is the most inclusive edition yet.’

Improving the Quality of Life for People with Dementia

Life with dementia is a journey full of uncertainties. Every day can be a challenge, both for the person with dementia and for their loved ones. With the number of people with dementia doubling over the next twenty years, attention to this disease and to the quality of life of these people is not a question, but a necessity.

With the support of, among others, PGGM, Teun Toebes has worked in recent years on a new documentary about Alzheimer's disease. The 24-year-old healthcare innovator came to PGGM to present his latest creation and have a conversation. Teun has a clear mission: to improve the quality of life for people with dementia. He has been living in the locked ward of a nursing home for years when he decides to take this mission to a higher level. During a trip around the world, Teun explores how other countries deal with dementia and what we can learn from each other to make the future more beautiful and inclusive.

A philosophy that is in line with the hopeful message that healthcare innovator Teun Toebes conveyed is the Unforgettable Cooking Club Zeist.
