A generous training budget for internal and external courses and programmes.

Twenty-seven days of annual leave plus a personal choice budget, which you can use for extra time off, personal development or as a cash payment.

Paid parental leave, with one hundred per cent salary for the first nine weeks.

From a good pension scheme, internet allowance and bike plan to ongoing support for diversity and relaxation. And that is far from everything. You can find the full list of employment benefits on our website.

Onboarding

At PGGM, we believe a strong start makes all the difference, which is why we see onboarding as an ongoing journey, not just a one-off event. From day one, new colleagues feel welcome, valued and engaged. With our structured one hundred-day plan, we ensure that new employees get to know our culture, their team and their role at PGGM in a natural way. This creates a warm welcome and a solid foundation for long-term collaboration and job satisfaction.

A monthly onboarding day

We have completely redesigned our onboarding programme at PGGM to give new employees an energetic and inspiring start. Each month, they join a dedicated onboarding day where they receive all the essential information and, in an interactive and surprising way, get to know their colleagues and working environment.

For example, they take part in an icebreaker game, a Values Walk and a tour of the office - all designed to actively and personally involve new PGGM colleagues from day one.

Sebastiaan’s first days at PGGM

Sebastiaan Terlouw (30) recently joined PGGM as a junior public affairs consultant. He reflects on his first days:

‘During the application process, I already noticed how relaxed and friendly everyone is at PGGM. That first impression was confirmed during the onboarding: people are very open and approachable, creating a genuinely inclusive atmosphere. You feel at ease when you start somewhere new.’ According to Sebastiaan, PGGM’s culture is visible during formal moments and in everyday interactions.

‘People make you feel at home very quickly, which shows throughout the whole organisation. During the onboarding day, colleagues from other departments joined as well. They really reflect that same culture.’ For Sebastiaan, the most valuable part of the onboarding was being matched with a buddy: ‘Having someone you can turn to with work-related questions and who helps you find your way is really reassuring. I also appreciated the introduction to Learning & Development. PGGM places great importance on personal development, and it feels good to know they guide you right from the start.’

Onboarding Magazine

The Onboarding Magazine also plays an important role. New employees receive the magazine before their first day as an extra way to get to know PGGM. This interactive magazine shares everything you need to know about PGGM and its culture in an engaging way. This helps new colleagues feel connected even before they start.

Sebastiaan said: ‘I really liked having this to read beforehand - it helped me get a clear idea of what to expect.’

Sebastiaan’s choice for PGGM

For Sebastiaan, choosing PGGM was a conscious step towards an organisation where he can grow professionally and contribute to positive social change. ‘I was looking for a job in public affairs,’ he explains. ‘I asked myself: do I really want to represent these interests? Do they fit within my moral framework? Sometimes the answer is clearly no. More often, it is a grey area and that is something you figure out over a coffee.’ ‘PGGM was actually the first organisation, and one of the few, where I could answer that question with a clear yes,’

he says. ‘What really appeals to me is working for something so tangible, like pensions for people in the health and welfare sector. It is a sector everyone respects and one that is incredibly important to our society.’ At the same time, you are contributing to social impact on a much larger scale because PGGM invests with sustainability in mind. That combination, making a difference in a tangible way and at the same time having an impact on a bigger scale, is what really drew me to PGGM.’

Onboarding as an ongoing journey

At PGGM, onboarding does not stop after your first working day. We have developed a one hundred-day programme helping new employees discover different initiatives across the organisation step by step. For example, we organise a referral breakfast where they are invited to share ideas within their own network about potential new colleagues. They also receive information about attractive additional employment benefits and take part in a workshop that explains all the opportunities for Learning and Development at PGGM. Managers receive a practical checklist to guide the process, giving every new colleague a strong and consistent foundation while still leaving room for a personal approach within each team.
